This type of inspection is conducted to
assure a new roof system scheduled for installation is being installed
over an acceptable substrate. Substrate acceptability is a requirement
of all roofing system manufacturer’s warranty requirements.
Many roofing systems can be installed
over one existing roof. However, the condition of any existing system
must meet minimum standards so as not to damage the newly installed roof
or continue to deteriorate the underlying roof deck.
A number of factors are in need of
evaluation including:
* Compatibility of the roofing systems
* Condition of the roof deck
* Presence of underlying moisture in the
existing roofing system
* Adhesion of the existing roofing
system to the deck
* Drainage of the existing roof and
provisions for positive drainage of the proposed new roof.
Installation of a new roofing system
over an unacceptable substrate can immediately invalidate a new roof
system warranty.
